Befriending visits to older people at risk of social isolation

Our befriending services offer companionship and support to older people who are lonely or isolated, provide a link to the outside world and can act as a gateway to other services and support. The service matches an older person with a befriender who can provide friendly conversation and companionship on a regular basis .The service is free to those who use it and anyone can refer to the scheme including self-referrals from older people who wish to use the service.

The service Co-ordinator will visit the older person to meet them and assess their needs and will introduce the older person to a volunteer who will then visit them regularly. Volunteers and the people who use the service agree the frequency, day and timing of visits between themselves.

All volunteer befrienders undergo an enhanced check with the Criminal Records Bureau and are required to provide satisfactory references as part of the recruitment process.

We provide befriending services that offer home visits in North West Leicestershire and Rutland. These projects are funded by North West Leicestershire District Council and Rutland County Council.
