'Seize the day!' That's the advice of Dorothy, a youthful 97-year-old, who lives in Hertfordshire.

Dorothy spent a lot of her early life working with what were then the Girl Guides and, decades later, she still counts some of the girls as friends.

What works for Dorothy?

Grabbing opportunities as they present themselves is one of Dorothy's life mottoes - and, as she explains below - learning to dance is one such opportunity that has helped tremendously.

Dorothy on ageing

'As long as I can still do what I want to do – I can still cook. I cook a meal every Tuesday for a widower friend of mine.

'It’s not always easy and I could just sit in an armchair and read a book or watch TV, so you sometimes have to push yourself to get out a bit.'

On keeping cheerful

Even Dorothy has had her share of niggles and problems, but she doesn't let them get her down.
