Greenagers service
The Greenagers are a group run by Age UK Malvern & District, working in partnership with local allotment communities.
We plan to work in partnership with the communities of two existing allotments; one in the village of West Malvern and one in the parish of Cowleigh, both are within close proximity of the primary schools of St James and Northleigh.
It is our intention to include these schools and encourage the older children to work as volunteers. Both localities have a high proportion of elderly people living close by; it is these that we would wish to encourage to take up their own allotment or to adopt one.
By approaching it in this way, we are:
- Encouraging older people in healthy eating by growing their own produce
- Helping to bridge the age gap between the young and older generations
- Encouraging social inclusion
- Promoting physical activity
- Promoting reduction in household waste, e.g. no supermarket packaging
- Working towards a long term aim of selling the produce to sustain the scheme into the future - outlets will include luncheon clubs, day centres, coffee mornings, farmers markets etc.
If you are interested in joining the Greenagers service either as a beneficiary or a volunteer, please contact us on 01684 899 003.
