Age UK Milton Keynes is working in partnership with local charities MK Dons SET, Works For Us, MK Sieve, MK Christian Foundation, MIND BLMK and Talkback UK to provide support for people who are registered unemployed or economically inactive wanting to get back into work.
The project is being funded by Big Lottery and the European Social Fund and runs from now until January 2019.
Social Business Alliance CIC is the lead partner for the area covered by Milton Keynes Council and Cherwell District Council. They will be supporting the delivery partners (the organisations listed above) in Milton Keynes and co-ordinating communications and reporting. Social Business Alliance CIC will also be reporting on the social value and impact of the partnership in Milton Keynes.
Age UK Milton Keynes will be working with anyone over 50 years of age and will be providing a range of support including career guidance, CV writing, help with job search, interview skills and mock interviews. We will also be able to support people who need help developing their IT skills offering workshops and one-to-one coaching.
Age UK Milton Keynes will also be able to provide work experience opportunities and coaching for people considering roles in retail and catering.
Paul Griffiths who is coordinating Age UK Milton Keynes’s involvement in the project says: “People over the age of 50 have a considerable amount to offer an employer. However, the proportion of people aged 50 – 64 in employment in the south east of England has been reducing in recent years.
Also, some people who have been out of work for a while may need support in rebuilding their confidence. This is where working in partnership with other organisations will be a considerable benefit to participants, as we will be able to refer them to organisations with specialist knowledge and skills.
The challenge that some older people face returning to work has been recognised at a national level, with the government appointing a Business Champion for Older Workers and establishing the Older Workers Champion Business Taskforce. Through this project we will be able to provide effective local support.”
