The club provides day care and company for frail older people living in Woburn Sands and the surrounding villages.
We aim to encourage people to enjoy social contact and to join in activities which are tailored to their needs and abilities.
A caring, safe environment
We provide morning refreshments and a freshly cooked lunch.
- The cost for the day is £6
- The club is held on Mondays and Thursdays from 10am to 3pm
- At Aspley Guise Village Hall, Woburn Lane, Aspley Guise, Beds MK17 8JH
The club is particularly suited to the needs of older people who are mentally frail. As well as providing a caring safe environment for its members it also gives support and relief to carers and relatives.
Club members are encouraged to join in group conversations about topics that are of interest to them. We sit in the comfortable sitting room at the village hall in small groups. This way people do not feel intimidated or institutionalised. We play boards games and chat and no-one is left out.
Outings are arranged on an ad hoc basis, depending on the season and on the number of members and volunteers.
The DEGA project is a registered charity (1039919) supported by Age UK Milton Keynes and Central Bedfordshire Council. The name is "aged" spelled backwards.
The club is run by a paid organiser and a team of dedicated volunteers.
In 2016 the club celebrated its 25 year anniversary and continues to make a positive difference to the lives of local older people and their families.
Volunteer drivers needed
We always need volunteer drivers for the DEGA Day Club. If you would be able to drive members to and from the club on a Monday or Thursday, or both, we would love to hear from you. We pay out of pocket expenses – all it costs you is your time. Please call our Volunteer Coordinator on 01908 240450 if you’d like to help.
