Age NI Peer Facilitators

Become a Peer Facilitator... we did! Ann and Emily have joined the team of Peer Facilitators at Age NI. Their role is to listen to the views of older people about issues affecting their lives.

Here’s what Ann and Emily say...

If you would like to become a voice for lesser-heard older people, have a look at what’s involved:

The Role

Title:  Volunteer Peer Facilitator
Type:  Voluntary and short term
Type of applicant: Individual older people (50 years +)

Overall purpose of role:

  • To ensure that the voice of older people is at the heart of Age NI
  • To organise discussions with older people in your local area on a range of issues and report the findings
Outline of activities:
  • Identify groups of older people to talk to
  • Organise and facilitate listening sessions (full training provided)
  • Take notes and report the findings to Age NI
Personal Qualities and Experience:
  • Interest in older people’s issues
  • Desire to make things better for older people
  • Understanding older people and listening to them

Benefits of becoming a Peer Facilitator Volunteer:

  • Being part of a new, dynamic organisation for older people
  • Reward of making heard the views of older people in your area
  • Meeting with and sharing views with other older people
  • Having out of pocket expenses reimbursed
  • Having support to assist you in your role
Time required:
  • Organisation and facilitation of 4 listening sessions with older people
  • Available to attend facilitation support and training
  • Willing to take part in occasional charity events
