Nuala McKeever got some help from Ann Lavery to launch the NI Independent Care Awards for 2010.
Ann is a resident in Ben Madigan Private Nursing Home in north Belfast. She is encouraging other residents and relatives to nominate staff for the care awards.
This is the second event of its kind to take place in Northern Ireland when staff working in the Independent Health and Social Care sector will be acknowledged for the enormous contribution they make to society in our many care homes/organisations, caring for older and vulnerable people.
There are ten award categories for community care staff including those working in nursing and residential homes and those providing care for people in their own homes.
Nomination forms can be obtained from care providers or by visiting www.ihcp.co.uk
Nominations are open until Thursday September 30 when those submitted will be scrutinised by a panel of judges.
The awards will be presented at a gala evening on Wednesday December 1 in the Ramada Hotel, Shaws Bridge, Belfast.
Nominations are encouraged from residents, clients, relatives, owners, managers, other staff and members of the public.
Nuala, who will compere the awards, said: “Many staff provide a tremendous job looking after older and vulnerable people in the community.
“It is great to see that they will receive recognition for their hard work through these awards.
“I would encourage those who receive these services and know of someone who deserves recognition to submit a nomination form.”
The main sponsor of the awards is Priory and the arrangements are being co-ordinated by Independent Health and Care Providers (IHCP).
Sharon Butler, managing director of the Priory Care Homes division said: “Priory is pleased to be sponsoring these important awards.
“There are so many unsung heroes working within the care sector in Northern Ireland and we would encourage people to nominate those who go that little bit further to offer the very best in care for their service users.”
