Since December 3,000 people have called our advice lines – almost double last year.
We’ve completed 5 times more benefit checks than last year and we’ve identified £268,000 in benefits for people at breaking point.
Older people are struggling.
Our advice lines are also struggling to cope with demand. Without the help of our advisors, more than 2,400 older people would have suffered poverty in silence this winter. People like John.
'I couldn’t afford to go out and I thought my life had gone too... until I called Age NI. They respect you, they look after you and they go out of their way to help you. They looked after me and I’m very thankful they were there.' John Leishman
John is 92. He was living ‘hand to mouth’ on £100 a week after the death of his beloved wife. After a free benefits check and support from the Age NI Advice Service, his weekly income doubled. He has his life back.
£10 funds one benefits check. A successful benefits check will increase an older person’s income by £62 per week on average. That means your £10 could be worth 6 times more to an older person who needs Age NI’s help. You could be responsible for so many stories like John's... the good news stories.
If you know an older person in need of advice and support, contact the Age NI Advice Service on freephone 0808 808 7575 – we are here to listen and help.
