Junior Minister Jennifer McCann has called for the rights of older people to be upheld.

Speaking at the Pensioners Parliament, the West Belfast MLA said:

“No one should be discriminated against because of their age. Everyone is entitled to a standard of service delivery that reflects their needs, generates improvements for their economic and physical wellbeing and social inclusion.

“All of us have a responsibility to acknowledge the issues that affect older people in our society and promote their value and contribution and uphold their rights.

“Through the Pensioners Parliament many older people have identified priority issues that affect them.To name a few they are poverty, health and social care policies plus the fear of crime.

“It is our responsibility to bring forward policy and programmes that will focus on removing the barriers older citizens face and ensure they play an active role in all aspects of society here.”
