Supporting older people was the thrust of a special event at Stormont.

Among thost attending the event in the Long Gallery, entitled The Politics of Ageing, was local Green Party Assembly man, Steven Agnew.

The Green Party leader met with representatives from charity Age NI, and discussed a range of topics relating to advocacy and advice services for older people with its key staff.

Mr Agnew said, "I will be developing stronger links and a strategic partnership with Age NI so that I can help direct my constituents to the best sources of information and help.

"Age NI can offer expert advice on welfare benefits, community care, residential and nursing care and housing and health. They also offer advocacy support to people experiencing difficulties negotiating the health and social care system and those who have experienced, or at risk of, abuse."

"I have invited Age NI to run an information day at the Green party constituency office on Abbey Street in Bangor in the coming months and I will be announcing details of this in the near future."

"I would urge any older person in North Down who has any concerns to contact me as their elected representative and I will endeavour to get the right information to help them address any issues."
