Country Music Stars Shine for Age NI this Christmas

Stars of country music were shining bright in support of the Age NI Christmas Concert, in association with M&S, at the Ulster Hall to raise funds for the charity’s spread the warmth campaign.

Delighted fans were in festive spirits as host George Jones introduced live performances from Susan McCann, Philomena Begley, The Nathan Carter Band and Muriel Day.

Anne O’Reilly, Chief Executive of Age NI, said; ‘I would like to take this opportunity to thank M&S who sponsored this year’s event and for their kind donation of hampers for the raffle prizes. We are also delighted by the support of George Jones and the country music stars for their great performances. And thanks also to the large crowd who turned out despite the cold weather to enjoy the night’s entertainment.’

Anne continued, ‘The evening took place as part of Age NI’s spread the warmth campaign, which aims to support people in later life to stay warm, well and in touch this winter. We can all do a little to make a big difference to the lives of older people to improve their experience of winter and let them know we care. Checking in on older friends, neighbours and relatives to make sure they warm, healthy and well is something we can all do easily and it’s so important,  particularly now when icy conditions such as those we are currently experiencing could be preventing them from leaving their homes, keeping active, getting to the shops or meeting up friends and family. Anyone concerned about an older person who may need help to stay warm or needs a free benefit check, contact the Age NI Advice and Advocacy Service on 0808 808 7575 to speak to an advisor in confidence.’
