Age UK Northumberland will continue to raise awareness of its work with people over the age of 50 throughout the County, with a view to engaging them in its activities both as supporters of, and participants in, the provision of its services and the development of its resources.
It will continue to provide support for the most vulnerable older members of the community, taking into account the changing nature of the population. It will address the diverse aspirations, expectations and needs of older people and campaign on their behalf. It will continue to work to influence policy makers in the region on such issues.
The aims of Age UK Northumberland are underpinned by the values of the organisation. These are:
Age UK Northumberland is part of the Age UK local partners, a national body made up of over 400 organisation who all adhere to the same principles and quality standards. The organisation is inspected every three years to ensure that the high standards set by the federation are maintained across all services.
Age UK Northumberland became a registered charity in 1975 and became a Company limited by guarantee in 1998. However, the organisation has been in existence in various forms for over 50 years. It was originally known as Northumberland Old People's Voluntary Committee (NOPVC) before changing to its present name.
The organisation offers a wide range of services for older people within Northumberland which are delivered by over 300 staff and 500 volunteers. The organisation has a turnover of over £4 million per year.
Age UK Northumberland is managed by a Chief Executive and senior management team who are responsible to a vary committed Board of Trustees. The Trustee Board meet on a monthly basis and are supported by three sub committees which monitor progress in the following key areas: finance, human resources and service development. The mission of the organisation is 'to promote the well being of people over the age of 50 in and around the County of Northumberland, helping to make life enjoyable and fulfilling'.
