Adventures of a Lifetime
Age UK Northumberland has partnered with Global Adventure Challenge to offer some spectacular opportunities to raise funds and have an adventure of a lifetime. Are you looking for something to challenge you – perhaps you are approaching a milestone birthday or you have overcome a difficulty and are looking for something to aim for or perhaps you are just an adventurer who is looking for something new. Well we hope you can find something with the range of opportunities available through Global Adventure Challenges.
Among the challenges available are:
A breathtaking Himalayan adventure trek to the summit of Poon Hill. The challenge takes place in the stunning Annapurna region of the Himalayas – home to some of the highest mountains in the world. The highlight of the challenge will be to summit Poon Hill at 3210m – a majestic peak offering unobstructed views of the highest peaks in the Annapurna region. The trek takes you through charming Nepalese villages where you will experience the culture of the mountain people of Nepal.
Cycle in India, Land of the Kings. The challenge is to cycle 400km through this fascinating region of Rajasthan. Explore the amazing painted ‘havelis’ of Shekawati, a remote area where time has largely stood still. Desert landscapes, rolling green hills and villages of vibrant colour are just a few of the highlights you’ll experience on this challenge.

Take a Husky Trail in Lapland – a fantastic journey through the Arctic wilderness driving your own team of spirited huskies 250km across the frozen wilderness of the Arctic. Your challenge is to spend six days driving your sled through rolling highlands and deep forest into the heart of Lapland. Sledding from northern Norway crossing the Swedish border, you will journey through wild and untouched nature and finally arrive at the world famous Ice Hotel in Jukkasjärvi.
Trek the Sahara Desert witnessing the sun rising over the ever-changing dunes.

Your challenge is to hike for 4 days through this ever-changing landscape and climb to the top of the Chigaga Dunes to witness the desert sunrise. The days will be hot and the trekking tough but your reward of conquering the desert with the High Atlas Mountains as your backdrop will make it all worthwhile.
The Euro City Cycle, three hundred miles, three countries and three capitals. Your challenge is to cover approximately 300 miles with 4 days in the saddle and take in the rolling countryside of Essex, the plains of Holland and the sleepy lanes of Belgium visiting London, Amsterdam and Brussels.

Challenges are also available closer home so if you don’t think you can manage the above then why not consider a weekend adventure taking part in the challenging Coast2Coast Cycle or following in the footsteps of the Romans by trekking Hadrian’s Wall.
Whatever you fancy doing you can be sure that Global Adventure Challenges will have something to meet your needs and by taking part you will be raising vital funds for Age UK Northumberland. Various dates are available for each of the challenges. Costs to participate and minimum sponsorship pledges vary but details are available on the Global Adventure Challenge website.
