Volunteering

Volunteering for one of our many schemes can help make life enjoyable and fulfilling for many older people in the County of Northumberland.

Mini bus volunteerAs a volunteer with Age UK Northumberland you will be offered a variety of training to assist you with your voluntary role.

 

All training costs are covered by Age UK Northumberland and any travel expenses will be reimbursed. Such training opportunities include: MiDAS (Minibus Drivers Awareness Scheme), First Aid, Food Hygiene and Moving and Handling.

Volunteering opportunities

Mini bus drivers and escorts

Providing a means of transport for service users, from their homes to their day centre.

 

Rural Access Project volunteers

Assist in accompanying older people in your community on group outings from either North or West Northumberland.

 

Telephone Information and Advice Line

Provide information and advice on a wide range of topics to older people in Northumberland. This service is based in Alnwick.

 

Friendship Line

Our Friendship Line offers isolated or lonely older people a regular telephone call giving them some companionship and to help lessen the feeling of isolation or loneliness.

 

Health Promotion volunteers

Our Health Promotion volunteers provide exercise classes for the over 50s in the county.

 

Day Care

Our day centres offer social interaction and activities for service users, volunteers assist in running day centre. We also run a Meals on Wheels scheme in various locations throughout the County, and we are looking for volunteers to join our existing teams delivering meals.

 

Dementia Day Care

Dementia Day Care offers social interaction and meaningful activities for service users with varying stages of Dementia. Volunteers will be involved with, and help facilitate a variety of activities. Full training will be provided to give a greater understanding of Dementia and the needs of those attending Day Care.

 

The Round House Cafe

Our Cafe offers visitors and employees in the Age UK Northumberland’s offices somewhere to purchase and eat refreshments in a café style environment.

 

Insurance Arrangers

Volunteers arrange insurance in accordance with the Financial Services Authority Regulations.
