Get knitting for the Big Knit 2016
Raise money for Age UK Cambridgeshire and Peterborough by getting involved with Age UK and innocent’s Big Knit campaign 2016. You can make a difference by knitting some mini hats.
Knitters of all ages can get involved in this exciting campaign to make lots of tiny hats for the top of innocent smoothie bottles. For every behatted bottle sold, 25p will go straight to Age UK so we really need your help create lovely hats of different styles and designs.
Get as creative as you like to knit your woolly hats; as long as it will fit on the top of an innocent bottle, anything goes! We suggest between 5-7cms in circumference and at least 3cms tall.
You can make your own pattern or if you’d like some inspiration you can download the beginner, intermediate and expert patterns below to use as a guide. If you would like to submit a pattern to be included on our web site please send the pattern to Christine Wildman at reception@ageukcap.org.uk preferably with a photo.
Please send us your knitted hats by 31st December 2016.
Please give us your name, address and contact details so that we can thank you.
You can personally bring your hats along to our offices at the addresses below or send them to us:
How the Big Knit helps older people
Each winter, 1 older person dies needlessly every 8 minutes because of the cold. With over a decade of support from knitters up and down the country, The Big Knit has raised vital funds to support local and national winter projects, such a Spread the Warmth Campaign, to help older people keep warm and well in winter through befriending visits, emergency cold weather support, warm meals and other vital services.
The Big Knit is a great way to bring people and communities together. Knitting groups have been held up and down the country for people to get involved, share patterns and have a cup of tea or two!
‘The Big Knit campaign couldn't happen without the support of thousands of amazing people across the UK who take part and knit woolly hats to adorn innocent smoothies each year.’  - Douglas Lamont, CEO at innocent
Our knitting activity in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough will make a contribution to these projects and the money we hope to raise from our involvement will be spent directly on supporting older people in our County.
We are very grateful for all your help - tell your knitting friends. Also keep an eye on our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/AgeUKPeterborough) and please share your pictures and comments.  Thank you

The Big Knit is also a great way to bring people and communities together. Knit together with friends or family or you could join our Knit 'n' Natter Group, meet people, have fun, share patterns and a cup of tea or two!  We meet every week on Thursdays 10:30am to 12:30pm at the Boathouse Cafe, Alexander Park, Oldham.

Get as creative as you like to knit or crochet your woolly hats, as long as it will fit on the top of an Innocent bottle, anything goes!  The hats are manually put onto the bottles by very patient Innocent staff so the hats should roughly measure 1½ inches by 4¼ inches (4cm by 11.5 cm).
