What's going on in Cherwell?

Banbury Centre Cafe

Right at the heart of our Cherwell activities is our bustling Banbury Centre, based at 5 White Lion Walk, near to the Post Office and Banbury High Street. The Centre offers a great value cafe, with a warm and friendly atmosphere. We have many activities, groups and one to one beginners’  IT sessions, as well as a drop-in centre for some of Age UK Oxfordshire's popular services for older people, including:

  • Information and Advice - on a vast range of subjects
  • Phone Friends - befriending people who are stuck at home with a regular phone call
  • Foot care - a simple, low cost service to maintain healthy feet
  • Support for carers - providing support and information to carers, or to those being cared for

Details of clubs, activities and events at our Banbury Centre and in the Cherwell area can be found below. If you would like further information, please contact us on 01295 278040, email us, or just pop in and one of our staff will be happy to help.

Age UK Oxfordshire Today!

We have launched a five year campaign called Age UK Oxfordshire Today! to raise awareness and funds to support our Banbury Centre and services for older people in the Banbury area. We need £50,000 per annum just to sustain our services, and we need additional volunteers to make it happen. The campaign aims to raise a total of £250,000 over five years which will support our services and activities for older people in the Banbury area.

Cherwell District Council logoActivities in partnership with Cherwell District Council

Cherwell District Council and Age UK Oxfordshire in partnership are able to offer a range of exciting activities and entertainment to older people’s groups in the District. We have activities suitable for a range of abilities including skittles, croquet, curling, ten pin bowls and now the paralympic sport of boccia.

We can also provide a musical duo to entertain your group, and there is a mobile cinema with a vast range of DVDs to choose from. For the adventurous, we have a Nintendo Wii. There is a small charge for the activities and musical act (£15.00 and £25.00 respectively). There is no charge for the Nintendo Wii or cinema sessions.

We also welcome requests to loan the activities equipment, for which there is no charge. Group organisers are requested to collect and return the equipment which is stored at the Banbury Centre in White Lion Walk.

We would like to make this activities programme available to as many groups within Cherwell District as possible, so book early to avoid disappointment. We are able to book up to end March 2014, and beyond that the booking will be provisional.

To book any of these activities for your group or to find out more please contact Joanna O’Neal at the Banbury Centre on 01295 278040.
