Kitchen assistant
Duties
The volunteer will be required to help with general kitchen work, preparing vegetables, sandwiches, salads etc, stacking dishes in dishwashers and washing up.
Skills/Qualifications
Basic food hygiene certificate(could provide training). Empathy with older people, reliable, adaptable.

Monday to Friday: 8.30am - 3pm or 10am - 3pm

Information assistant
Duties
Giving simple information over the telephone, and helping older people to complete application forms for Benefit entitlements.
Skills/Qualifications
Good communication skills, own transport would be useful but not essential.

Pop in assistant
Duties
Keep records of goods sold, clear dishes (there is a dish washer), tidy the kitchen. Serve simple snacks and beverages, prepare snacks (if you hold a basic hygiene certificate). Help with entertainment.
Skills/Qualifications
Good communication skills and empathy with older people. Basic Food Hygiene Certificate (could provide training). Reliable and adaptable.

Handyperson
Good at DIY? Got time to spare?
Volunteers are needed for the Age UK Handyperson Scheme in the Portsmouth area. Handyperson work is voluntary and you can work as many or as few hours as you wish.
Generally you will use your own tools, and have transport and a telephone. Petrol and telephone expenses will be paid. Your role is to carry out small DIY jobs in people's homes.
A selection of jobs that we are frequently asked to do are as follows:
- Replace light bulbs
- Cut up curtain tracks
- Take down curtains
- Replace tap washers
- Fit door bells
- Mend clothes lines
- Hang pictures
- Install bathroom fitments
