Handyperson scheme

Lady on the phoneWhat is the Handyperson Scheme?

The scheme provides Handypersons to carry out small repairs and jobs around the home. Help is available to Portsmouth residents living in the postal codes PO1-PO6, who are over the age of 59 and are unable to manage for themselves.

The scheme operates Monday to Friday. An appointment to visit you at a convenient time will be made. Tenant or owner-it doesn’t matter!  You could need a light bulb changed or some curtains putting up. No matter how small the job we can help you and if we can't then we will guide you to somebody reputable who can.

Handypersons are fully insured.

We provide a prompt and friendly service and usually complete the jobs within 2 weeks of receipt.

How much will it cost?

There is a minimum call out charge of £10 per hour.  We try and complete all jobs within the hour but if we take longer you will be charged accordingly. All donations that we receive will be put back into the Handyperson scheme. The donations will help to towards the running costs which include our van, volunteer expenses and staff costs. You can of course make larger donations if you so wish, which would be most welcome.

Who are the Handypersons?

Handypersons are Age UK Portsmouth staff and volunteers, all of whom are carefully selected. They have practical skills and will only undertake jobs they are skilled to carry out.

All our Handypersons carry ID Badges, and will be shown to you on each occasion they visit.
