Reasons to choose a funeral plan

The Age UK Funeral Plan exists because our customers told us they were concerned about rising funeral costs.

Jam jar with funeral savings sticker, pound coins in the jar. Many people think they have funeral costs covered by savings, 50+ life insurance or other means. But with funeral costs rising steeply and interest rates so low, there is no guarantee the costs will be met, and relatives may have to make up the difference. With our prepaid Funeral Plans, once paid for, your loved ones will not have to pay any extra towards the services included in the Plan, because the Age UK Funeral Plan covers those specified funeral costs and arrangements, no matter how far in the future the service may take place.

What is not included in your Plan:

  • Doctor's Fees. Changes to legislation in May 2015 mean there will no longer be a charge for doctor's certification for cremations in Scotland. Similar legal changes are being considered for the rest of the UK, so we have removed the cost of these doctor's fees from all our Plans. If the funeral takes place outside of Scotland and before the legal changes are made throughout the UK, then, if applicable, the doctor's fees must be paid by the next of kin or personal representative, when arranging the funeral.
  • Embalming, burial plot, memorial or headstone, flowers, catering/wake.
  • Costs for removing artificial limbs and mechanisms such as pacemakers.

This list is not exhaustive, so please refer to the Terms & Conditions for further information.

Additional Special Requests can be added to the Plan at any time, however, some requests may incur an additional charge and may not be covered by the price guarantee. Any costs incurred from these requests will have to be paid for at the time of the funeral. Alternatively, you can pay a contribution in advance for any additional requests with the amount paid being subject to RPI inflation.
