Switzerland has something for everyone: majestic mountains, spectacular scenery, pretty lakes and, of course, punctual trains.
Not forgetting cuckoo clocks, delicious chocolate, wonderful cheeses and fabulous speciality foods and good wine. The cities, too, are interesting with great cultural activities and transport hubs.
There are outdoor pursuits in abundance, with hiking and cycling beside the lakes or in the stunning mountains for the more energetic, or you could enjoy a cable car ride to enjoy lunch with marvellous, panoramic views. The air is crystal clear and utterly clean, with glaciers and waterfalls adding to the uplifting beauty of nature.
For railway fans, Switzerland offers dramatic journeys and the highest train station in Europe at Jungfraujoch. You can travel through the stunning Oberalp pass on the Glacier Express from Chur to Brig.
Or maybe take the Bernina or William Tell Express through the picture postcard alpine meadows and woodland, that is sprinkled with traditional Alpine chalets.
James Bond is very much in evidence at Piz Gloria, Schilthorn where much of On Her Majesty’s Service was filmed. And the Christmas markets here are legendary, with hot mulled wine, traditional crafts and wonderful wooden toys.
