If you break down you will be covered for the cost of the call-out and emergency assistance charges

If your vehicle can’t be repaired immediately at the scene, or if it is not safe to try and repair it there, you will be transported with your passengers to the nearest garage. (Excludes the use of specialist off Highway recovery equipment or winching costs)

Message Relay Service - A message can be sent to your friends or family to let them know what’s happening.
Vehicle Recovery and Onward Transportation - where repairs cannot be effected by the end of the working day you will be provided with one of the following;

Transportation of you and your passengers and your vehicle to either your home, or to your original destination within the UK, or a repairer of your choice in the vicinity of either of these locations.

Up to £100 towards either a replacement self drive rental vehicle for up to 24 hours, or public transport costs or overnight accommodation costs where you are more than 25 miles from home.

Medical Transfer Service - If you are more than 50 miles from home and someone travelling in your car is taken ill and needs to stay in hospital, Age UK Motor Breakdown will arrange and pay for the cost of the patient to be taken to a hospital near their home as soon as it’s safe to move them.
Alternative Driver Service - If you are the only driver and have to stop because you’re ill or injured, you will be covered for the cost of your travel home by taxi, train or coach and for someone to return to collect your vehicle.
No enrolment fee
Caravans and small trailers are covered when attached to the vehicle

Eligibility list

You can get Age UK Motor Breakdown whatever your age. Eligible vehicles are the vehicles owned by or the responsibility of the policyholder or his/her immediate family. Each vehicle to be insured must be one of the following:

Cars
Motorised caravans
Light vans
Estate cars
4x4 sport utility vehicles
Motorcycles
Minibuses
Towed caravans or trailers of proprietary make
Not used by you for hire or reward
Registered in the UK
Maintained and serviced to the manufacturer’s specifications
Each not exceeding (including any load carried) the following gross vehicle weight and dimensions 3500kg, length 7m, height 3m; width 2.25m;
Carrying no more than the number of persons recommended by the manufacturer and for whom seats are available subject to a maximum of 8 persons including the driver
In good roadworthy condition.

Q. How do I make a claim?

A. Call the emergency phone number either in the UK or Europe. You must contact the insurer first to obtain authorisation before incurring any expenses. Age UK Motor Breakdown Claims Helpline operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. If you need to make a claim after you return home, you will need to get a claim form and then return it.

Q. How long can I expect to wait for someone to come to my assistance?

A. The average arrival time is 60 minutes.

Q. I’m a woman in my 70s, do I get priority if I breakdown?

A. Yes, anyone who feels vulnerable will be given priority.

Q. If I break down in the middle of the night, can I get roadside assistance?

A. Yes, the control centre is operated 24 hours a day and the breakdown specialists used also operate a 24-hour service.

Q. Do you have a Money-Back Guarantee?

A. We want you to be completely happy with your insurance so there is a money back guarantee. If you’re not satisfied with your policy, you can return it within 14 days for a full refund.

Q. Are there any exclusions to my cover?

A. Age UK Motor Breakdown can’t cover you in every single situation or when you are taking part in certain activities. The principle times your vehicle is not covered are:

If it cannot be reached because of floods, snow, sand or mud
If it has been used for motor racing, rallies, speed or duration tests and track days
If the vehicle is unsafe or not roadworthy when cover was taken out
If it is being used for hire or reward – such as a minicab
If it has not been maintained and serviced in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations
Costs incurred by not carrying a serviceable spare tyre
The cost of draining or removing contaminated fuel or other liquids.

Q. Can I claim back my repair costs?

A. The policy does not include any repairs carried out at the garage or the cost of parts of materials used to repair the vehicle.

Q. If my car is broken into can I claim for any contents taken?

A. The policy doesn’t cover claims for loss or damage to the contents of the vehicle. You should make sure these are covered either under your motor insurance, or away from home under your home contents insurance. Missed Motorail Connection	Vehicle storage, return rail tickets and/or up to £450 for the hire of a replacement vehicle if you miss your pre booked outward journey due to accident or breakdown.	-£450 for the hire of a replacement vehicle. -Covers up to a Group C hire car.
Replacement Parts Despatch	Locating and despatching essential spare parts needed to repair your vehicle.	Despatch charges in exess of the value of the vehicle. The cost of the spare parts is not covered.
Break In	Emergency repairs necessary to allow you to continue your trip.	£175
Vehicle out of use	If your car cannot be repaired during the 7 days immediately prior to your trip or within 8 hours during your trip you will be paid for one of the following; - transportation by public transport to your original destination. -hire of a group C car - the cost of local overnight accommodation whilst repairs are completed.	- Hire car charges of up to £70 per day (£800 limit) OR - for hotel accommodation £40 per person per night (£800 limit)
Camping Trips	If your tent cannot be used due to theft or accidental damage, you will be paid for the cost of hiring and delivering a replacement, or paid for emergency bed and breakfast accommodation.	Up to £100 per person and £500 in total.
Alternative Driver	If you are declared medically unfit to drive and there is no other suitable driver available then you will be provided with a qualified driver to return the vehicle to the UK.	Up to £100 per day.
Repatriation	You will be paid for the costs of transporting your vehicle back to your home address if it can’t be repaired abroad or paid the public transport costs to return one person to recover the vehicle once it has been repaired.	Up to the market value of the vehicle.
Customs Regulations	If your vehicle is damaged, or breaks down and is beyond economic repair, its disposal and the customs formalities will be dealt with.
Bail Bonds	Following an accident a court bond will be provided to release you from custody.	Up to £1000
Motoring Legal Protection	Telephone advice on any legal problem in connection with your trip. Legal costs to defend you against an alleged motoring offence. Legal Expenses to pursue a claim for compensation for injury suffered following a road traffic accident.	Up to £1000 to defend a motoring offence. Up to £10,000 to pursue a compensation claim.

Exclusions for European cover

You are not covered for “Prior to departure benefits” if you buy your policy less than 24 hours before your planned departure date.

You are not covered for individual trips which exceed 31 days. The total number of days abroad in any one 12 month period must not exceed 90 days.
