UK and European motor breakdown cover: what's included and what isn't.

Emergency Assistance
If you break down you will be covered for the cost of the call-out and emergency assistance charges. If your vehicle can’t be repaired immediately at the scene, or if it is not safe to try, you will be transported with your passengers to the nearest garage.†

A message can be sent to your friends or family to let them know what's happening. |
| Vehicle Recovery and Onward Transportation |
If repairs cannot be completed by the end of the working day you will be provided with one of the following:
- Transportation of you, your passengers and your vehicle to either your home, your original UK destination, or a repairer either in the vicinity of the above locations or to a repairer of your choice
- Up to £100 towards a replacement self drive rental vehicle for up to 24 hours; public transport costs or overnight accommodation costs where you are more than 25 miles from home.

| Medical Transfer Service |
If you are more than 50 miles from home and a passenger is taken ill and needs to stay in hospital, we will arrange and pay for the cost of the patient to be taken to a hospital near their home as soon as it's safe to move them. |
| Alternative Driver Service |
If you are the only driver and have to stop because you are ill or injured, you will be covered for the cost of your travel home by taxi, train or coach and for someone to return to collect your vehicle. |
Eligibility List
You can get Age UK Motor Breakdown insurance whatever your age. Eligible vehicles must be owned by or be the responsibility of the policyholder or his/her immediate family. Cover is not provided for any replacement parts or other material used in repair.
Your vehicle must be one of the following:
- Car or estate car
- Motorised caravans
- Light vans
- 4x4 sport utility vehicle
- Motorcycles
- Minibuses
- Towed caravans or trailers of proprietary make
It must also:
- Be registered in the UK
- Be in good roadworthy condition
- Not be used by you for hire or reward
- Be maintained and serviced to the manufacturer’s specifications
- Not exceed (including any load carried) the following gross vehicle weight and dimensions: 3500kg; length 7m; height 3m; width 2.25m
- Carry no more than the number of persons recommended by the manufacturer and for whom seats are available subject to a maximum of 8 persons including the driver.

| Missed Motorail Connection |
Vehicle storage, return rail tickets and/or up to £450 for the hire of a replacement vehicle if you miss your pre booked outward journey due to accident or breakdown. |

Locating and despatching essential spare parts needed to repair your vehicle. |

| Vehicle out of use |
If your car cannot be repaired during the 7 days immediately prior to your trip or within 8 hours during your trip you will be paid for one of the following:
- transportation by public transport to your original destination
- hire of a group C car
- the cost of local overnight accommodation whilst repairs are completed.

for hotel accommodation £40 per person per night (£800 limit) |
| Camping Trips |
If your tent cannot be used due to theft or accidental damage, you will be paid for the cost of hiring and delivering a replacement, or paid for emergency bed and breakfast accommodation. |
Up to £100 per person and £500 in total. |
| Alternative Driver |
If you are declared medically unfit to drive and there is no other suitable driver available, then you will be provided with a qualified driver to return the vehicle to the UK. |
Up to £100 per day. |
| Repatriation |
You will be paid for the costs of transporting your vehicle back to your home address if it can’t be repaired abroad, or paid the public transport costs to return one person to recover the vehicle once it has been repaired. |
Up to the market value of the vehicle. |
| Customs Regulations |
If your vehicle is damaged, or breaks down and is beyond economic repair, its disposal and the customs formalities will be dealt with. |

| Bail Bonds |
Following an accident a court bond will be provided to release you from custody. |

| Motoring Legal Protection |
Telephone advice on any legal problem in connection with your trip. Legal costs to defend you against an alleged motoring offence. Legal Expenses to pursue a claim for compensation for injury suffered following a road traffic accident. |
Up to £1000 to defend a motoring offence. Up to £10,000 to pursue a compensation claim. |
Exclusions for European Cover
If you buy your policy less than 24 hours before your planned departure date, you are not covered for "Prior to departure benefits”.
Individual trips which exceed 31 days are also not covered. The total number of days abroad in any one 12 month period must not exceed 180 days.
