Age needs one voice. Now it has:
Age UK is the new force combining Age Concern England and
Help the Aged in England.
The new force combining &
Supported by BUPA and PwC this event took place on 22 September 2011 and debated the changes facing the social care system.
The last few months have seen two major reports released with the potential to change the face of care: the Law Commission on care legislation and the Dilnot Commission on care funding. Both have recommended significant reform to the care and support system in England, but there is no guarantee of reform and many arguments exist about why care is unaffordable or unnecessary.
The Government has committed to an engagement exercise in autumn 2011 and a subsequent white paper. Now is the time to ensure that the final draft of the white paper contains proposals for reform which are solid, sustainable and achieve the scale of change necessary.
We were delighted that Andrew Dilnot, Chair of the Commission on the Funding of Care and Support could join us and was one of several speakers who helped shape the debate, provide analysis, create clarity, and influence the Government. This event gave attendees from across all sectors the opportunity to listen to the policy detail and build on their understanding of the key issues, the trade-offs and the consequences.
