Localism - making it work for older people

10am-12pm, Wednesday 6 April

'Localism - making it work for older people' was the first in a new series of Age UK policy discussion events.

The event focused on exploring how older people can contribute to the localism agenda, and how the Government's plans will affect us.

The morning opened with an introduction from Andrew Harrop (Director of Policy and Public Affairs at Age UK) setting the context of what localism means for older people and how Age UK, as an organisation are approaching the issue. Claire Coper (Deputy Director for Community Action, Communities and Local Government) then spoke on the Government's vision of localism and what this means for older people.

After the break there was a lively panel discussion following short speeches from Andy Sawford (Chief Executive at the Local Government Information Unit), Guy Robertson (Joint Head of Ageing Well Programme at the Local Government Improvement and Development) and Belinda Wadsworth (Strategy Advisor at Age UK).
