It is estimated that 60% of people over the age of 65 have never used the internet. Age UK provides personal support and encouragement as well as offering training courses suited to their needs. However, there will always be some people who, for a variety of reasons, cannot use the internet. It is vital that public services are not made exclusively available online.

Internet access continues to grow, with 55% of people aged 64 to 74 and 26% of those aged 75-plus having home internet access. However, the over-65s are still significantly less likely to have internet access.

There is a widely held opinion that older people are not interested in the internet. 

However, our research has found that the main barriers for older people are a lack of understanding and confidence, although affordability continues to be a barrier for those on low incomes.
