Engagement and volunteering

Many people in later life take part and contribute to the life of their community, by engaging in social and leisure activities or volunteering.

Age UK is working to increasing the opportunities to take part locally, in particular for people who have poor health or are relatively isolated, in order to boost independence and help beat loneliness.

Engagement

Communities need to be designed with people in later life in mind, to ensure they are places where our voices can be heard and we have the opportunity to shape decisions. There are many good examples where people have come together in groups and forums to give a voice to local concerns and hold public bodies to account.
