The UK is going through rapid social change. The population is growing older, with longer life expectancies and the retirement of the post-war baby boom generation.

The older population is also becoming more diverse in terms of backgrounds, needs and aspirations.

With the backdrop of the fiscal deficit, national and local government needs to respond to the changes in society, promote economic and social contributions in later life and meet needs and create opportunities.
