Are you passionate about helping older people? 
Did you know that there are 48,900 people aged 65 or over in Rotherham and that around 61% of them have a limiting long term illness or disability?
We are looking for people who are passionate about helping others and are willing to undertake training to understand how people can keep themselves safe & well at home and share this information with older people. 
Age UK Rotherham is a registered charity, seeking to promote and improve the well-being of all older people and their carers in Rotherham. Support Volunteers will help us to pass on knowledge about fire risks and their prevention. Volunteers will receive full training to develop their knowledge and understanding of fire safety and how people can stay safe. Support Volunteers will be giving back to helping older people in their own directly communities. This is a community based role where talks will be held at local groups and events. Volunteers will also hand out safe & well information and refer individual older people who need a Fire Safety Check to Age UK Rotherham.  
This volunteering role can be taken up by people who are seeking a new volunteer role or it can be done as an ‘add-on’ role to an existing volunteer role that you already undertake. Support Volunteers can choose to give talks and distribute information to groups and at events, that they already attend and are involved in. 
Becoming a Safe and Well Support Volunteer is an excellent personal development opportunity. You gain confidence and experience in giving talks and presentations.  You will also be given full training to help you understand fire safety and how to refer a vulnerable older person who needs a little extra help.

NEW! END LONELINESS VOLUNTEER

Do you want to help end loneliness in Rotherham but are not sure where to start or what type of volunteer role is for you? 

Being an END Loneliness Volunteer helps us to engage neighbours daily in your local community and the wider borough. These could be the people right next door to you, that may be hiding the fact that they are lonely.

This volunteer role can be adapted around your life and interests. It could include a combination of activities that help to prevent loneliness where you are. All you need is a desire to support older people, prevent loneliness, and at least three free hours a month and we will help create the role with you.

Your role can include a mixture of the following:

  • Helping older people
  • Listening to older people and having conversations about common interests
  • Supporting people to find the information they need 
  • Referring people and help them to book people on appointments with Age UK Services
  • Coming up with ideas for activities and quizzes
  • Completing paperwork 
  • Basic admin tasks
  • Helping with events
Is this role for you?

END Loneliness Volunteers will be natural listeners and enthusiastic about making a difference to older people’s lives. They will be positive, optimistic, caring and compassionate.

No specific skills or experience are required for this role but the following are desirable:
Reliable friendly, flexible and supportive   
Good communication skills

VOLUNTEER COMMUNITY CONNECTOR

Are you passionate about helping older people? Did you know that there are 48,900 people aged 65 or over in Rotherham and that around 61% of them have a limiting long term illness or disability? 

Be our eyes and ears in your local community by becoming a Community Connector. Age UK Rotherham is a registered charity, seeking to promote and improve the well-being of all older people and their carers in Rotherham. Community Connectors will help to make our advice and information more accessible. Connectors will support people by linking them to local social activities and referring them to the Advice and Information Team and other services at Age UK Rotherham. This is a community based role and we match volunteers based on your availability and location. 

Becoming a Community Connector Volunteer is an excellent personal development opportunity. You gain confidence and experience in talking to people as well as helping to make a difference to your own community. You will also be given full training and on going support throughout your time as a Connector with the option of undertaking further training to help you do the role.

Your role will be to:

Helping older people

Make links with people in their local neighbourhood.

Listen and help people to find the information and support they need 

Refer people and help them to book people on appointments with Age UK Services

Become aware of, and refer people to, local community groups and services

Complete paperwork and feedback to office staff

Taking part in fundraising events and attending community events (optional)

ENGAGE ROTHERHAM ADMIN HELPER

Are you passionate about helping older people?

Come and lend a hand! This role is a good opportunity to use some old admin skills or develop some new ones.

Age UK Rotherham is a registered charity, seeking to promote and improve the well-being of all older people and their carers in Rotherham. EngAge Rotherham project aims to listen, to respond and to support older people to be involved with others by helping them to stay safe, stop them from being lonely and isolated, stay independent, be healthy and have regular contact with other people.  

EngAge has several projects that the EngAge Admin Helper will be supporting including Safe and Well project, Community Connectors and our Affiliated Groups.  

What will I be doing?

Answering and making telephone calls

Producing and helping to hand out leaflets

Inputting data, photocopying and scanning

Processing paperwork and recording information

Equipment stock checks

Producing resources and quizzes for groups and events 

Visiting and helping out at groups

FURNITURE WAREHOUSE VOLUNTEER

Do you have a few hours to spare and would like to join our team of volunteers?

We are looking for people who will be passionate about being part of a team running our exciting new social enterprise.

It's important that you feel comfortable talking to people and show respect for their property.

The role involves helping our Furniture Warehouse Manager with a wide range of tasks needed to operate efficiently and successfully. The hours are to be arranged and we're looking to create a team of volunteers who can help us cover opening hours from Monday to Saturday.

For example, you could be serving customers, helping on the till, preparing and pricing new and donated goods, helping to create furniture displays, keeping the warehouse clean and tidy, researching items on the internet, helping with deliveries to and from the warehouse and completing paperwork and recording information.

We are looking for people who will be passionate about being part of our exciting new social enterprise, by collecting and delivering furniture as a helper on one of our vans. The hours are to be arranged and we're looking to create a team of volunteers to help us cover collections and deliveries from Monday to Saturday.

The role involves helping our van drivers collecting donated furniture from members of the public and delivering items which have been purchased.

COMMUNITY ADVOCATE VOLUNTEER

Have you got a few hours to spare and would like to join our team of volunteers representing Age UK Rotherham? We are looking for people who will be passionate about our work who will raise awareness in the community, share our stories and insights, and help to raise funds so that we can help more older people? Then come and be part of this exciting new initiative.

This new volunteering role involves speaking to individuals and groups of people in your local community about Age UK Rotherham and its work supporting older people in the Borough.  

You will be representing Age UK Rotherham and raising awareness of its work so it’s vitally important that you feel comfortable talking to people.  As a Community Advocate your contribution will help us to find new supporters in the heart of our local communities.  This could be people and/or organisations who are interested in helping to raise money or perhaps volunteer their time. Most importantly, it means we can continue to provide services such as befriending and support for older people in Rotherham to stay independent and make the most of later life.

We need you to provide an important link between Age UK Rotherham and the local community. Community Advocates will be a way of engaging many more people to support older people, provide inspiration and encouragement, be a source of support and local knowledge for Age UK Rotherham.

VOLUNTEER COMMUNITY HELPER

We are recruiting an army of occasional helpers who can be called on to support activities such as bag packing and other collections, help at events, support social media campaigns and find other ways of helping our fundraising team.

Do you care about older people and you’d like to help us but haven’t got much time to spare? Juggling work or study and family and caring responsibilities sometimes makes it hard to get involved. This role could be ideally suited for you. This is volunteering on your own terms: as much as you want, whenever you want, however you can.

SOCIAL CENTRE VOLUNTEER 

This is an important position at the Age UK Rotherham Social Centre to help deliver services that provide social interaction, involvement in fun activities and encourage the adoption of a healthier and more active lifestyle.

The volunteer(s) in this role will be responsible to the Social Centre Senior Key Worker and the role is based at our Social Centre at Lord Hardy Court in Rawmarsh.

The Social Centre is open each Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 9.30am to 3.30pm.

WINTER EMERGENCY VOLUNTEER

During past winters Rotherham has suffered periods of extreme cold weather with heavy snowfall. Some older vulnerable people found this distressing as they became isolated and began to run out of food essentials. In response to these concerns Age UK Rotherham ran an Emergency service through volunteers to ensure essentials supplies were provided to those most in need.

We are now planning for future winters and are looking for volunteers to support the scheme to help people in their local area.

 

VOLUNTEER DRIVERS FOR WINTER EMERGENCY SCHEME

Volunteer drivers would be required to deliver emergency shopping to clients at various locations throughout the borough (as possible). You will also be required to handle money/receipts. Mileage expenses will be reimbursed.

Link Line Caller

This is a telephone befriending service that offers support to lonely and isolated people 7 days a week on a permanent or temporary basis.  This often gives reassurance to the individual and their family, knowing that a friendly volunteer will be contacting them.
