There is a wide range of support mechanisms in the 'funding world' including grants, loans, award schemes, sponsorship and many more. In reality many small community groups will look to 'grant' funding to help maintain the viability of their organisation.
A grant is an excellent way to get your project off the ground and is possibly the best source of funding available. There is not interest to be paid and funds are generally non-returnable. Grants are available from a multitude of sources and can come from central, regional and local government, the European commission, or other national and local bodies such as Regional Development Agencies, charities and community foundations.
However, there is fierce competition for the money available and grant making bodies award to those applications which they feel deserve support. Today's economic climate also means that the funding landscape is now far more competitive, so it is vitally important that your application, whether it is aimed at a statutory funder, lottery funder or a trust or foundation is a robust as it possibly can be.
There various organisations that help and support voluntary organisations in their fundraising efforts including your local third Sector Interface who should be your first port of call should you require fundraising advice.
To support you in the application process we have compiled a Top Ten Funding Tips. This short guide cover the main points to consider when completing a funding application, from considering who you should apply to, to what you should do if you are successful.
In addition, your local Age Scotland Development Officer is always available should you require additional support.
