Thousands receive charity's support

05 May 2017

New figures published by Age UK Sheffield show the 70-89 age group was the most supported by the city charity in 2016/17.

In total, Age UK Sheffield provided information, advice, and services to 3,896 in 2016/17, plus thousands more with information enquiries.

The 80-89 age group accounted for 1,225 of clients, closely followed by the 70-79 age group, with 1,130 clients.

But hundreds of people in their 50s and 90s were also supported, showing the range of need in Sheffield throughout the older age spectrum.

Age UK Sheffield Chief Executive, Steve Chu, said: "People are sometimes shocked to find we provide support to people as young as 50. But we all know there are sprightly 90-year-olds and others who benefit from support in their 50s, and even younger. We never know when we may need help with health, housing or financial issues, and Age UK Sheffield is here to support any over-50 in Sheffield who needs us."
