Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin works to help all older people over 60 and that covers an enormous age range.
Someone at the age of 60 may not consider themselves to be an older person, but could benefit from our living well projects by taking a class in art, dancing, IT or Tai Chi.
Older people in Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin can take advantage of our Pub Lunch Clubs, offering companionship and a reasonably priced meal in pubs around the county.
We offer a free information and advice service to help older people with all manner of queries and problems. Factsheets on a wide variety of issues and a local A-Z of Services for older people across the areas are also available.
We have a benefits advice service, answering enquiries, providing benefit checks and assisting with completing benefit claim forms. We can also offer assistance at Benefit Tribunals.
Our Advocacy service provides independent and trustworthy support for older people facing problems, such as care home charges or disputes with a service provider.
In Telford & Wrekin we operate in schools to bring together young and older people and to build links between the generations. We can also offer assistance to older people who become isolated in their communities.
Other services focus on the needs of frail older people:
We have over 40 day centres in Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin giving a friendly day out and a hot meal to older people who otherwise may rarely leave their home.
The Help at Home scheme operates within Shropshire Council's area, provides domestic help and volunteer visiting, assisting many older people to remain in their own homes.
Our befriending service offers volunteer befrienders to visit older people in their homes or to offer support by telephone.
The Home from Hospital scheme operates in South Shropshire and Age UK is part of the North East Shropshire Rehabilitation Team which gives short term support to older people undergoing a crisis in their life, such as illness.
With the help of a dedicated staff and some 750 volunteers, Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin is proud to offer an ever growing range of services to the people of Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin.

Our services are either free or charged at a very reasonable cost and are available to all over 60. In some cases a different age limit may apply.
Another vital aspect of our work is campaigning on behalf of older people in Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin on local issues such as transport issues, changes to local service provision, the proposed withdrawal of cheques. We also link in to national campaigns when we can.
