Last year we asked you to help us protect Attendance Allowance from proposed government changes that could have seen thousands of older disabled people struggling with less help or even no support at all.
We’re really pleased to report that the government has decided not to go ahead with the change. Sajid Javid, the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, announced that Attendance Allowance will not be transferred to councils as part of the Business Rates reforms.
This is fantastic news and we’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who signed Age UK’s open letter to the government or contacted their MP about the issue. This wouldn’t have happened without your support.
Caroline Abrahams, Charity Director of Age UK said, ‘This campaign has shown the strength and influence of the Age UK network to fight for a better deal for older people.’
