15 June 2017 is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, the United Nations designated day to focus global attention on the problem of physical, emotional, and financial abuse of older people.
An estimated half a million older people in the United Kingdom are abused and neglected every day by individuals they thought they could trust.
Age UK Shropshire Telford and Wrekin are helping to raise awareness of this on 15 June by inviting our neighbouring shops and businesses in Shrewsbury to ‘Make Mardol Purple’ for the day. Staff will be encouraged to wear something purple and shoppers to buy a purple ribbon badge for £1 to show their support.
The purple ribbon badges are available from our office 3 Mardol Gardens. All money raised will go to the charity Action on Elder Abuse, which provides a national helpline for people concerned about or experiencing abuse (freephone 080 8808 8141).
