It is difficult to make contact with all older people in such a large rural county as Shropshire, and Parish Links play an important role in overcoming this problem.
Our Parish Links scheme recruits volunteers in rural areas to act as a link between the local community and Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin. The scheme operates across Shropshire, excluding the area of Telford & Wrekin.
We aim to have a volunteer in every parish in Shropshire to act as a link between older people and the services we offer or can access.
How they work
Parish Links have up to date information on Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin services available and where they can be accessed. They are also advised of any changes that will affect the lives of older people in their community.
Each Link has a list of the factsheets and information guides produced by Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin on a range of subjects from money matters to leisure and education and further help is just a phone call away.
Your Parish Link
Our Links make themselves known in a number of ways: through parish magazines, community notice boards, your local shop or pub or via one of our day centres. They may also distribute leaflets. If you cannot find out who your local link is please contact our Shrewsbury office on 01743 233 123.
How you can help
We still need more Parish Links, so if you can spare a couple of hours a month and would like to help older people in your community, call our Volunteer Recruitment team on 01743 588 570. We will provide you with training and support and cover your out-of-pocket expenses.
