Age UK Solihull has had the pleasure of working with many educational institutes over the years with regards to fundraising.

We want to encourage young people to understand the challenges that older people face and to think about how older people should be valued.

Fundraising Initiatives

  • Flourishing Fivers

Age UK Solihull have developed a Flourishing Fivers Scheme with schools in Solihull to get involved to help fundraise for local older people as well as developing pupil's entrepreneurial skills.

  • Slip into Slippers

Age UK Solihull commemorate Older People's Day by encouraging schools and work places (where safe to do so) to wear their slippers for the day and donating just £1.00.

Our previous work with schools

Slip Into Slippers

We receive great support from infant and junior schools in the Solihull borough through our Slip into Slippers annual event. We ask schools (children and staff!) to wear slippers for the day in recognition of International Older People’s Day on 1 October each year and donate £1 to help us continue our working in supporting older people.

Flourishing Fivers

Six schools have so far participated in our ‘Flourishing Fivers’ campaign, whereby we give each child £5 and rely on their entrepreneurial and team building skills to make the £5 grow and donate their profits back to us to help continue our work. Year 5s seem to find it the most beneficial, but all ages from Year 4 upwards can take part.

Balsall Common Primary School

We have enjoyed a partnership with Balsall Common Primary School since 2014. The school pioneered both our ‘Flourishing Fivers’ and ‘Slip into Slippers’ initiatives and participate every year and, along with some other fundraising activities such as Christmas Carol Concerts, has raised over £7,000 to date.

Coppice Junior School

Coppice Junior School have supported us for several years and have raised nearly £800 through participating in Slip into Slippers.
