Activity Day Clubs

Activity Day Clubs

Memory boxes are always popular!

The Activity Day Club service offers door-to-door accompanied transport to a choice of four weekly clubs in two locations serving much of South Gloucestershire.

A typical day contains opportunities for a variety of fun and activities such as singing and playing percussion instruments, quizzes, exercises to music, art & craft, bingo, Nintendo Wii games, knitting, memory boxes, entertainment and occasional outings as well as times of quieter conversation and one-to-one support.  A two course lunch and refreshments are also provided.

A range of activities are provided

We will be happy to discuss you attending a 'taster session' so you can experience the service and meet other service users and staff team.  Half day packages can also be booked (subject to availability) and a reduced rate applies if no transport is required.

Positive outcomes for service users

  • Improved health and well-being
  • Reduced isolation
  • Increased motivation
  • Improved self-confidence
  • Improved social skills and communication
  • Improved nutrition and hydration through monitoring

Carers can also recieve much-needed respite from their responsibilities.  (Ad hoc days can be booked subject to availability of spaces.)

What our clients say

‘These are my no worry days. I get picked up and taken home, I do fun activities, meet my friends have a lovely lunch. No worries’.

The Activity Day Clubs provide tailored activities to meet the individual needs. Which include music, exercises, memory box, gardening and crafts. They also often have day trips including the Gromit trail, Bitton Railway and Clifton Suspension Bridge.

The staff from the Clifton Suspension Bridge visited Nutfield Activity centre to do a talk. Gladys told them of her time as a young girl sailing under the bridge. The staff asked if her story could be used in the visitors centre. Nutfield staff and users were invited to a VIP event at the Suspension Bridge with cream tea and to look round the new centre. Gladys is pictured here with her plaque.

What our volunteers say

‘It’s easy to get along with the staff and I feel welcome. It’s nice to meet new people.’

Danny has recently retired and contacted Volunteer Kingswood to find out more about volunteering opportunities. Danny was put forward for the opportunity at Age UK South Glos at the Kingswood Activity Day Club. Danny had retired from the care sector and felt that he had skills that could be used.

‘I would recommend volunteering to anyone; it would suit anyone with a caring nature. It’s not like working full time and I enjoy every minute of it, you get as much back as you give.’ Danny’s role involves spending time with the people who attend our activity day club, having a chat and encouraging them to join in activities. Danny also shares his love of music by playing the guitar and he often leads singing sessions.
