The experience of abuse is always unhappy and distressing. Whether you personally have been exploited, abused or neglected, or whether it has happened to someone you know, the impact is far-reaching and disturbing.

Abuse can happen anywhere, in people’s own homes, within services such as day care, care homes or hospitals. Sadly, abusers may be family members or neighbours, as well as care, social or health workers and service providers.

Abuse can be verbal, financial, physical, psychological, sexual abuse, or it may be neglect or discrimination. The one thing you should never do is ignore an act of abuse or your suspicion that abuse taking place.
