Good Neighbour Project

Age UK Sunderland aim to make the city a friendlier and more neighbourly place to live. It is an initiative not just for older people as the whole community will improve if we can all start to be better neighbours and look out for each other in times of need or emergency.

Adrienne Rowley, Good Neighbour CoordinatorWe all lead busy lives but if we can get into the habit of taking a few minutes each week just to look in on our neighbours, especially if they are older or less able, and make sure that they are well and not in need, we can make our neighbourhood a better place.

A simple gesture once or twice a week can make all the difference to an older or disabled person. If we can set a precedent now by getting neighbours of all ages talking and caring for each other then we will set an example for future generations.

Another way you can help the good neighbour project is to register as a volunteer. In the event of an emergency or prolonged bad weather, we contact registered volunteers to ask if they can help someone living nearby.

These tasks would only be for a short time until more help can be organised.
