Norfolk is a great destination at any time of year. It borders Lincolnshire to the west, Cambridgeshire to the west and southwest, and Suffolk to the south. Why not visit some of Norwich's historic sites, have fun at the seaside in Great Yarmouth, or explore the magical Norfolk Broads?
No trip to Norfolk is complete without spending a little time in Norwich. There's something for everyone, whatever you're interested in: from guided walking tours and river cruises, to watching a show or a spot of shopping, Norwich has the lot!
Spend some time in some of the most beautiful and ancient parts of the city and explore its historic buildings - for example, the City Hall, the Clock Tower (with its fantastic views across the city), the Cathedral of St John The Baptist, the Great Hospital, and of course, Norwich Castle (complete with its battlements and dungeons), to name but a few options.
No summary of Norfolk's main tourist attractions would be complete without mentioning the famous Norfolk Broads. Visit these idyllic waterways and relax as you take in the beautiful surrounding countryside.
The Broads are home to many charming and quintissentially English towns and villages, complete with thatched cottages, village greens, churches, and even windmills. If you're in the mood for a little exercise, you could hire a bike and cycle around the Broads, or for a lazier option, why not simply jump on a train? But for the most relaxing way to explore this magical environment, nothing beats a boat trip.
Thanks to miles of sandy beaches, Great Yarmouth has been a popular seaside destination since the late 18th century. The Norfolk coast is great for all the usual beach pastimes, including sailing, watersports, and, of course, the obligatory building of sandcastles. Whatever the weather, Great Yarmouth has a wide range of options to keep you amused. The 'Golden Mile' seafront houses many attractions, including the Pleasure Beach with its traditional and modern rides, the Victorian Britannia Pier, the Sealife Centre, Merrivale Model Village with its beautifully landscaped gardens, and numerous restaurants. Plus, don't miss the museum dedicated to one of Norfolk's most famous sons, Admiral Lord Nelson, or the fantastic Great Yarmouth Potteries.
Billy Knights, a retired farmer, began his garden in 1970. When he died in 1994 he left behind the magical Gooderstone Water Gardens - a must-see for gardeners, naturalists, and photographers alike.
The Gardens include a natural trout stream, which feeds a series of ponds and waterways. There's also an 8 acre wildlife area to explore, and a large bird hide where you can spot kingfishers.
The Gardens combine native and cultivated plants, with mature trees, colourful bogs gardens, and flat grassy lawns. And the wonderful thing about these garden is you never know what lovely spectacle you'll meet around the next corner.
25 minutes from Norwich is Banahm Zoo, home to an impressive collection of mammals, reptiles and birds of prey. You could take the tour of the zoo on Benham's road-train, get involved feeding the giraffes, or learn more about the animals at the Zoo's educational centre. Some of the rarer animals kept at the zoo include a snow leopard, a Siberian tiger, exotic snakes and insects, alongside the usual popular favourites.
