The Elderberry Club runs carer-focused respite service.
We provide the opportunity for carers of people with dementia and carers of frail older people to take some time for themselves, knowing the people they care for are in a safe, stimulating environment.
How does the service work?
Both the carer and person who is cared for become joint-members of Age UK West Sussex and The Elderberry Club once a referral and subsequent assessment have been made.
A referral can be made by family, friends, social services, GPs, nurses or other carers.
The assessment takes place at your chosen centre and involves a series of questions which enable us and you to ensure The Elderberry Club is the ideal choice for the carer and person who is cared for. After the assessment there is the opportunity to meet the other members and take a tour of the centre.
Once you have joined The Elderberry Club there is no limit to the number of days you may attend throughout the year or how much of the day you spend at the centre.
What do our days with The Elderberry Club involve?
For those who are frail or have dementia, the trained and experienced team plan a variety of activities and cognitive stimulation games. Carers may be comfortable in the knowledge that those who are usually in their care, spend the day in trusted hands.
For carers, there is a relaxing space at the centre where carers may gather together, chat and share experiences. If carers would like to take part in their own activities as a group, we welcome suggestions for ways to tailor the days to suit you.
