Friendship Group — Sharing and Caring
This group meets once a week at the Tulip Tree Centre on a Tuesday afternoon between 2.00pm and 4.00pm.
It was set up because there was a need identified to provide such a service for older people who suffered with depression and nervous tension.
Many older people felt isolated and lacked confidence, and by coming together they could share and help each other.
Many had experienced a sudden bereavement and felt isolated and depressed. Some had families who lived quite a distance away and others had experienced a long illness.
The purpose of this group — which is very well attended — is to raise self esteem, widen horizons and explore ways for self help. Various social and therapeutic activities take place and the programme is user led.
