If you're an LGBTQ+ person, we can help you understand your rights and make sure they’re always respected.

Here at Age UK Hertfordshire, we have undertaken a LGBTQ+ Awareness training carried out by our partners, the Terrence Higgins Trust. It has given us a wider awareness of some of the issues that the older LGBTQA+ community can face on a day to day basis.  We are now more committed than ever to challenge the way we work with our LGBTQ+ clients. Since the training, we are in the process of revising our policies to make our work more inclusive and to support our older LGBTQ+ clients more effectively and rightly.

We are striving to make our website act as an information and advice hub for many of the issues and challenges relating to growing older in the UK.

  • LGBTQ+ Rights

Some issues and policies apply differently to LGBTQ+ people. Find out about your rights here.

  • Dealing with discrimination

You shouldn't be discriminated against because of who you are. If you've been treated badly, you can take action.

  • Trans issues

From transitioning later in life to arranging care, find out more about trans issues affecting older people.

  • Health & Wellbeing

Health and care services have a duty to provide care that is fair and equal, regardless of your identity.

The original pride flag has been redesigned over the years, with some LGBTQ+ movements arguing it needed to better represent and reflect more communities.

  • Blue, Pink & White: Transgender and non-binary individuals.
  • Black and Brown: Marginalized people of Colour who are a part of the community. The black stripe also represents those who live with AIDS and are stigmatized and community members that passed away due to AIDS.
  • Yellow with Purple ring: This adds the Intersex flag to the progess flag
