Finding and moving into a care home

People in a care home

Choosing the right care home is a big decision. It’s important that you find the right care home – one that not only meets your needs but also feels right for you as well.

The Welsh Government has a website with searchable information on all adult care homes in Wales. The website receives information automatically from Care Inspectorate Wales (the regulator of care and social services in Wales) and directly from care home providers. You can use the website to search for care homes in a preferred area and/or a preferred service (for example, nursing, mental health or respite care), as well as filter searches to select services and facilities that are particularly important to you, such as Welsh language provision. You should also be able to tell if the care home currently has vacancies. You can access the service at the link below:

Further information

Our factsheet 29w has detailed information on issues to consider and questions to ask when choosing a home. There is also a briefer information guide on the topic. Our factsheet on discharge from hospital (37w) may also be useful in cases where someone is in hospital immediately prior to needing to go into a care home.
