Arts and crafts

Age UK Barnet, East Finchley
This group meets every Thursday from 10am - 12pm at Age UK Barnet, Ann Owens Centre, Oak Lane, East Finchley N2 8LT. It is a fun and friendly class is for people of all abilities and uses a variety of art materials which are provided.

Arts Depot Creative Circle for the over 60s
Explore your creativity at these friendly arts sessions. These workshops are led by professional theatre makers, dance artists, visual artists and musicians. They include threatre storytelling, dance and movement, group singing as well as visual arts. No experience necessary.

The group meets on Mondays from 1.30pm - 3pm at The Artsdepot, 5 Nether Street, North Finchley, N12 0GA. It costs £24 per term. Booking is essential. To book call 020 8369 5455

Finchley Arts Society, North Finchley and Finchley Central
On Mondays from 7pm - 9.15pm the group meets at Trinity Church Hall, 15 Nether Street, North Finchley N12 7NN. A portrait model and still-life are provided but there is no tuition.

On Wednesdays from 12.30pm - 3.30pm the group meets at St Mary's Church Hall, 26 Hendon Lane, Finchley Central N3 1TS. Tuition in watercolour painting is provided. There is no model. The cost is £1.50 per session including tea.

Finchley Arts Society organise demonstrations by professional artistsand arrange days out.

Social Craft Group
Beginners and experience crafters are all welcome at this group that meets every Friday from 2pm - 4pm at Friend in Need Community Centre, East Barnet Baptist Church, Crescent Road, East Barnet EN4 8PS. The cost is £3 with light refreshments.

Studio North Three Art Group, Mill Hill
Studio North Three Art Group meets on Tuesdays during term time, between 10.00 am and 1.00 pm at Frith Grange Scout Camp, Frith Lane, Mill Hill NW7 1PT.

The group is open to artists of all abilities ranging from beginners to more experienced painters. Artists can explore their own medium in an unstructured and independent environment.

Bridge groups

Bridge - Beginners classes and supervised bridge
Interested in learning how to play bridge or playing at supervised sessions? Classes run every Thursday, 10.15 -12.30 at The Meritage Centre, Church End, Hendon NW4 4JT. They cost £8 per session. Beginners and Refresher courses are also occasionally run depending on numbers. Booking essential.

Books and reading

Make friends with a book at one of the many book groups in the London Borough of Barnet. All groups listed, with the exception of the Telephone Book Group, are run by The Reader. Stories and poems are read aloud generating discussion, laughter and thought. All are welcome. There is no pressure to talk, read or even drink tea.

New Barnet Amateur Gardeners and Floral Art Society

Knit and Natter Group

Silver Stitchers

LGBT

Opening Doors London hosts a variety of social groups and meetings for older lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT) people in London. Regular social activities include film nights, speakers events, walking groups, coffee evenings, lunch clubs, theatre and cinema trips, museum and day trips, and good old-fashioned nights out in the pub. Most activities are provided free to ODL members.

Sing a variety of song styes coached by a qualified teacher. The group meets at Friend in Need Community Centre, East Barnet Baptist Church. Edgware Community Chorus
Sing songs from shows and popular music. The group meet on alternate Mondays, 3pm at St Margarets Church, 1 Station Road, Edgware HA8 7JE. There is a suggested contribution of £2.50 per session for participants. Contact Godfrey Manning on 020 8958 5113 after 10am on weekdays for more information.

The Memory Lane Singing Club
Sing songs from all eras and musical shows. The group perform in local nursing homes and day centres from time to time. They meet at St Mary's Hall, Hendon Lane, Finchley N3 1TR. Hendon and District Townswomen's Guild (Colindale Branch)
This group meets at St Matthias Church Hall, Rushgrove Avenue, Colindale NW9 6QW. They meet on the second Monday of every month (except August) at 2pm. To find out more about the group call Pam on 020 8205 1758.The Hendon and District Townswomen's Guild (Colindale Branch) is for women to meet and exchange views and ideas, make new friends and support each other.

The group hosts interesting and informative talks and organises occasional outings. They also raise funds for charity, for example they hold a Macmillan coffee morning every September.
