About us
We're a local charity working in the community to support older people, their families and carers. We want everyone to be able to love later life.
Who we are
Age UK Barrow and District is an independent local charity. We've been working in the local community to help older people for 30 years. We have 20 dedicated staff and over 100 volunteers helping us to deliver services and activities for older people in Barrow and Furness.
We are open Monday - Saturday, 9am-4pm
Where you can find us
Our main office is based at Lakeland House, Abbey Road and we have two charity shops across Barrow.
How we are funded
We rely on your support to keep serving the community. We are supported by donations from the public, income from our charity shops, and some charitable grants.
What we do
-
We give advice
Our trained advisors offer free information and advice to older people and their families. In 2020-23 our advisers helped local older people to claim over £1,273,422.80 that they were entitled to.
-
We offer a telephone befriending service
Our Telephone Befriending service aims to give opportunities for older people to make friends, to "befriend" them, usually because that person is socially isolated.
-
We offer a Handyman service
Our handyman service offers a reliable, affordable service for everyday repairs and maintenance around your home.
-
We provide activities
We can offer a wide range of activity groups and events, such as lunch clubs and exercise classes, giving older people the opportunity to keep fit, socialise, or learn a new skill.
