Our befriending service aims to offer friendship and support to older people who are socially isolated and/or housebound. We do this by carefully matching a specially trained volunteer with an older person who feels like they may benefit from this type of informal support and regular contact. The role will involve visiting an older person at home and may include staying at their home for a chat and a ‘cuppa’, accompanying them on social/community activities such as going out for lunch, going to the library, visiting local shops, going for a little walk etc. The role does not include personal care, shopping for the older person, handling money, paying bills, household tasks or DIY.
Skills and Qualifications
No previous experience is necessary as full training will be provided. We are looking for volunteers who are enthusiastic, committed, sensitive, able to give friendship to an older person and have a couple of hours a week to spare. Due to the nature of this role, we ask that individuals are able to commit to this role for at least twelve months. The individual must be willing to undergo a DBS check.
1-2 hours once a week, day/time flexible.
