Music has proven to be beneficial for retaining memory in later life. When memory is failing a person, they are very likely to be able to recall a familiar melody. "Melodies for Memories" is an informal and fun music group for anyone who enjoys music and is affected by memory loss.

The melodies for memories groups are led by someone who has experience of using music to benefit people with memory difficulties. The groups will also give people with memory loss and their families/carers the opportunity to meet others who share an enjoyment of music. You don't need to be able to sing or play any instruments.

What to expect?

The Melodies for Memories sessions will include a range of music activities that benefit people who are affected by memory loss, including basic memory exercises, singing along to popular and familiar songs, listening to musicians performing and meeting other people who experience similar challenges and who enjoy music.
This will be achieved by exploring different types of well-known music, through themed sessions, including - At the Movies, Rat Pack, Swinging 60's, Love Songs, Musicals, Country Music and Rock n' Roll.

What is a session like?

We start with an introduction to welcome everyone followed by a few fun warm up exercises - singing exercises/fun tongue twisters.

Next we get the group singing a range of favourites from familiar songs and songs from the past to new pop songs. We also get a chance to talk about music and music trivia using visual aids.

We finish the session with some feedback taking ideas and requests for the next session.

Tea/coffee and biscuits are provided during a break in the middle.
