Volunteer News - Jan 2019
Thank you for all that you do.
We would like to wish you a Happy New Year and hope that 2019 brings you health, happiness and wonderful volunteering experiences!
This newsletter contains information about our interim Chief Executive, volunteer training, volunteer feedback (we want yours!) and other ways you can help us. Do have a read!

Interim Chief Executive Age UK Wandsworth

Following the departure of Rachel Corry, an interim Chief Executive, Lin Gillians, has been appointed who will lead the Charity until a permanent replacement can be found. She has worked at a number of Age UK's, either as a management consultant or interim CEO, so we are in good hands! Her CEO stints at Age UK's include Kensington & Chelsea, Bexley and Richmond.

Volunteer Feedback - we want your views!

It's really important to us that our volunteers are happy and that you have everything you need to undertake your role. We want to hear what is going well and where things could improve so please take 5 minutes to fill out this questionnaire and send it back to volunteering@ageukwandsworth.org.uk

Hero Volunteers!

All of our volunteers are heroes and, whilst we can't showcase everyone, we would like to highlight some of the many ways you ALL make a difference.
Sandra Munoz Alvarez
We wanted to give a special thanks to Sandra who volunteers on our newest service - Digipals. Sandra gives her time every week to provide friendly computer support to older people around the borough. Sandra is patient and supportive with everyone she interacts with and delights in sharing the benefits of computers and the internet with our service users. Indeed she has also made a short film, in her own time, to support the service and demonstrate how getting online can help older people. You can see the film here. Sandra we salute you!
Do you have a success story to share? If so please email volunteering@ageukwandsworth.org.uk

Bobble Hat Day

Friday 25th January is our first Age UK Wandsworth Bobble Hat Day! At your school or workplace you wear your favourite bobble hat for the day in return for £1 which goes directly towards the services that we operate to support older people in Wandsworth. We already have a few schools and nurseries taking part - could you organise this in your place of work or local school? It doesn't have to be on Friday 25th January and we can provide posters and collection tins. We'd love your help to make this event an annual fundraising day for a local charity so do let us know if you can help or have any contacts. Find out more about Bobble Hat Day here.

January de-tox and de-clutter?

If you are feeling a little unhealthy after the Christmas festivities, why not commit to getting fit this year whilst raising money for your favourite local charity? We have two places available for the Royal Parks Half Marathon in October - do get in touch if you would like one, last year they went in a flash! Or perhaps you might like to take on something more wacky like a tough mudder or parachute jump? Whatever you would like to do, we will support you all the way.

Or perhaps your cupboards are still overflowing with boxes of chocolate and bottles of wine that are not helping your January health kick? Or you have a few unwanted presents that are cluttering up your home? We are always looking for raffle-prizes and can even arrange collection so get in touch if we can help you detox or declutter?!

How else can I help?

1. Shop online
You can raise money for us simply by spending on-line as usual. Just register at www.giveasyoulive.com/signup , choose Age UK Wandsworth (not Age UK!) and every time you shop we gets some money to help more people in Wandsworth.
If you are a frequent amazon user you might prefer to use Amazon Smile which works in a similar way. Just shop via smile.amazon.co.uk and choose Age UK Wandsworth (not Age UK!) as your chosen charity.

2. Follow us on Facebook and Twitter
We are trying really hard to raise our profile locally and we'd love you to follow our social media feeds on Facebook and Twitter and, if you feel able, share what we are doing. We are always looking for great case studies too so if you have a success story from your work as a volunteer do email volunteering@ageukwandsworth.org.uk
