Buddy Up is Age UK Bristol's befriending project, launched to help people over 50 in Bristol to get back their confidence in re-engaging with local groups, cafes and events.
We know from a recent Age UK report that 47% of people over 55 are worried about leaving their homes, which is completely understandable given the impact of the Coronavirus crisis.
As restrictions change we want to support people to take steps to get out and about again. If this sounds like something you would like or you are interested in helping we would love to hear from you.
As the project develops we will offer:
- A weekly phone call from one of our volunteers
- Information and invites to local events
- Where possible we will match you to a local buddy to accompany you to a nearby group, activity or outing
If you would like to help and become a volunteer buddy please get in touch. We need people from all communities in Bristol. You can find out more about this volunteer role on our volunteering page.
For an informal chat about how we could support you or how you could help with no obligation, please call 0117 929 7537 or email firstname.lastname@example.org .
How to sign up
Our telephone befriending service has a waiting list. We are temporarily suspending new referrals until we have more space available. In the meantime, we can provide the contact details for other telephone befriending organisations.
To sign up for our befriending service or to find out more, please contact us on 0117 929 7537.
Please note that this service is a friendly chat with a volunteer and not a counselling service. We have to be confident both the older person and the telephone befriender are comfortable. It may not be suitable for those with complex mental health issues - please get in touch if you have any queries.
To refer a client to our befriending or peer-to-peer services, please complete the referral form below and email to email@example.com.
Please ensure you complete all sections of the form.
This project is funded by St Monica Trust.
