computer courses imageOur Basic Computer Learning Courses are open to everyone over 55 living within the Bristol area!

Our aim is to pass on enough knowledge to enable our students to:

  • Feel confident and safe online
  • Use online services (council services, paying bills, online banking etc)
  • Navigate around their computer and tackle any technical problems
  • Communicate with friends and family online

We currently run two Basic Computer Learning Courses as well as iPad Courses and more casual 'Tea & Tech' sessions. You will need your own iPad to take part in iPad Appreciation, but for our Basic Computer Learning Courses we have our own laptop computers that you may use. Click the relevent course below to read more about them.

Computer Basics 1

Basics 1 is recommended for those who may have never used a computer before or do not use one every week. We go right from the start and show students all the basics such as turning on and shutting down a computer, using the mouse and keyboard as well as getting online, sending emails, searching online and using online services. This course consists of a weekly 2 hour teaching session (with a tea and biscuit break at half-time) and the course lasts for 6 weeks.

Computer Basics 2

Basics 2 is recommeded for those who may have used a computer before or for those who use a computer occasionally, but would like to learn more and become more confident. Similarly to Basics 1, we go through email, keyboard short-cuts and online services, but we have the opportunity to go into more detail, as well as allocating time to talk through the specific things that students have requested to learn. This course consists of a weekly 2 hour teaching session (with a tea and biscuit break at half-time) and the course lasts for 6 weeks.

iPad Appreciation

The iPad Appreciation courses are specifically for students who have an Apple iPad and are looking to learn more about how to use it. Our ambition is to give you confidence in using the iPad and discovering things for yourself. This course lasts for 4 weeks consisting of a 2 hour teaching session each week.

Tea and Tech

We have a few Tea & Tech sessions that run throughout the year. These sessions are for anyone who has any piece of technology that they are having issues with or would like to learn more about their device. Our specialist volunteers will look at your laptop, tablet, camera, Mp3 player or phone with you and help you feel more confident using it. You will receive one-to-one assistance in a relaxed atmosphere, with tea and biscuits!

Where are they run?

We run our Basic Computer Courses in Central Bristol on Victoria Street and in South Bristol at the Withywood Centre on Queen's Road. However our iPad courses as well as the 'Tea & Tech' sessions are only available at our central office.
