Age UK Bromsgrove, Redditch and Wyre Forest has linked up with local schools and nurseries and is holding a special ‘Easter Competition’ as part of its window displays in several of its shops across North Worcestershire.

Children from Catshill First School and Nursery, Sidemoor Pre-school, Perryfields Nursery and St Wulstan’s Primary School (Stourport) have been busily decorating Easter Bonnets etc. in readiness for show-casing their ‘Easter Creations’ in the charity’s shops in Catshill, Bromsgrove and Stourport.

From Monday 19th March, visitors to the shops will be greeted by a display of ‘Easter-themed Creations’ and will be able to cast their vote for their favourite Bonnet, Bunny etc.  Voting will close on the 27th March so that each shop’s winning entry can be announced before the children break up for their Easter Holidays (although all of the entries will continue to be on display over the Easter period).  The winning entry for each shop will receive a prize especially crafted by the charity’s Men In Shed’s group.

Sue Howdle, Age UKBRWF’s Retail Manager, said:
“We would like to say a big thank you to the local schools and nurseries that are supporting us with this competition.  Our shops are a key part of Age UK BRWF, providing a key source of funding so that we can provide valuable support and services to people over the age of 50 living in North Worcestershire, but they are so much more than that – they are key hubs of the communities in which they are based.  As an organisation we recognise the huge importance of inter-generational connections - simple initiatives such as this help bring the generations together”

Comments from some of the local schools and nurseries taking part:

Georgia Plant, Head of School at Catshill First School and Nursery:  "I am delighted that our school has been part of this project.  The children have enjoyed creating the Easter bonnets and have made a variety of designs.  It has been a wonderful way to link with our community and to support the vital work that Age UK BRWF do."

Georgia Satchwell from Perryfields Nursery: "The nursery children have been really excited about this project.  They love making things and will enjoy seeing them on display in the charity shop window.   Age UK BRWF is something we are happy to support as we realise the important of supporting individuals in our society, regardless of their age.  Let's just hope the Easter bunny likes it!"

Mrs Savage, Principal at St Wulstan’s Catholic Primary School (Stourport): “We are really glad to be supporting Age UK Bromsgrove, Redditch and Wyre Forest with this initiative.  The children have so enjoyed making their bonnets and it and has been wonderful to see them bring them into school so proudly.  They have come up with some truly creative designs and I would encourage people to visit the shops to see them for themselves”
